All About That Bus Circle (and Monday)

Campus Construction Map

Bus Circle Photo
The bus circle has been moved away from the buildings and will only be used by buses for the time being

Although drop-off and pick-up of students via cars will be relatively unchanged this school year, construction on the front of Van Syckel Hall (the middle school building) will alter operations in our bus circle quite a bit

First, the part of the paved circle where buses dropped off students had to be moved away from the buildings. That alteration is completed but remains near active construction, so access to that new portion will be open only for buses to use at the beginning and end of each school day. All other non-construction vehicles will not be allowed to access the bus drop-off area at any time.

All students who are dropped off at Academy by buses will walk down a new path to the lower school playground and will enter school there. At the end of the school day, all bus riders will be carefully directed from the lower school blacktop to the waiting buses at the circle.

There have always been two handicapped parking spots close to the Academy Hall entrance. Those remain and will be joined by additional spaces for visitors to our Admissions Office. We ask that parents do not park in spots marked for admissions because those spaces need to be available for potential families as they consider the school as an educational option for their children. Parents are encouraged to park in the bus circle lot closest to Campus Drive if they need to visit Academy Hall. Faculty and staff members have been asked not to park in those spots in order to make them available for parents and other visitors throughout the day.

Monday’s Lower School Ice Cream Social will still be held in the bus circle area, but teachers will be set up in the grass area closest to Campus Drive rather than the inner grass square that was used in previous years. The bus circle parking lot will be completely closed after 4:00 p.m. that day so that cars do not interfere with the festivities. There should still be plenty of parking available along Viking Way in front of the Lower School and in the school’s other parking lots.

The Viking Corner store, run by our Parents’ Association, will be open from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at their location in the Dining Hall, where they will have new items on display as well as steep discounts on various spirit wear. The store will have a presence at the Ice Cream Social and will have students on hand to escort families to the store location so that they can select from the full array of options.

We look forward to seeing students and families on Monday!
